Connecticut Hospice Patients Will Now Experience Virtual Reality Moments as Part of Palliative Care - Cutting Edge Treatment Boosts Morale

The Connecticut Hospice, Inc. of Branford, America's first Hospice, recently announced the introduction of a new virtual reality experience to their clinical protocol. Connecticut Hospice patients will now be able to view virtual moments, especially their own personal family video experiences.

Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Captain Kaye Williams, Founder of Captain's Cove in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and CT Hospice IT Vice-President Marcel Blanchet said this tremendous new treatment experience will be available to all Connecticut Hospice home care patients as well as all palliative hospital-hospice patients.

“This is a cutting edge new treatment option that will improve patient quality of life and add value to the overall treatment experience,” said Connecticut Hospice Vice President Dr. Soozi Flannigan, DNP. “Whenever we identify any treatment option that can alleviate suffering and boost morale, it is something we want to be able to offer.”

Patients receive a headset and an iPhone with software that allows them to see virtual reality movies from a library of films we have such as rollercoasters, boat rides and other activities -- or patients can use their own home videos, like the street they grew up on or a picnic with friends and family and other memorable places and occasions.”

CT Hospice was the country’s first hospice and its care for seriously ill patients spans four decades. Hospice is also the nation’s first palliative teaching hospital earning the Joint Commission’s first “Advanced Palliative Certification.” Our rating of 100 percent compliance, without recommendations for improvement, reflects our commitment to the highest level of care for its patients and families.
