Costco to Withdraw Branford Plans But Immediately Re-file: Report

Costco officials plans to withdraw their pending application before the Inland Wetlands Commission, but immediately refile with the town, reports the Branford Eagle.

An Inland Wetlands officials tells the Eagle that they’ve never seen this done in 20 years.

A public hearing planned for next Thursday will be cancelled and may not occur until the new year.

Costco officials likely withdrew plans because they want more time for the commission’s consultant to review their plans prior to a public hearing, the Eagle reports.

The extra time will also allow Costco officials more time to respond to the Inland Wetlands consultants feedback, the report states.

The proposed Costco development master plan has been approved by the Planning and Zoning Board but still requires Inland Wetlands approval before it can proceed. First Selectman James B. Cosgrove, who was re-elected this week has been a big proponent of the Costco development.
