Could A New Zone Jumpstart Development Near Branford Walmart?
Two owners of properties near Walmart in Branford are urging the zoning board to adopt a new hybrid zone.

BRANFORD, CT — Could a new hybrid zone help jumpstart development near the Walmart store in Branford? Well that is the opinion of Jeffrey and Kris Shapiro who have pitched the idea to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The owners of two parcels near the Walmart store in town addressed zoning members earlier this summer. According to the owners, they are exploring different uses for their property near the giant retailer.
They both said they are having difficulty developing the site as "retail uses are not working out well for this site." They say some of the interest in the land is for uses that are not currently allowed by zoning laws.

According to officials, a "different hybrid zone may make sense for out of the way properties such as this one that are not visible and don't have access to a main thorough fare."
Officials plan to work with the two property owners to develop ideas and report back to the commission.
