DOT Develops Plans For Modern Roundabout On Border Of Branford, Guilford And North Branford
Construction of the roundabout will improve safety and efficiency for both vehicular and any potential pedestrian traffic.

BRANFORD, CT — Branford First Selectman James B. Cosgrove released a letter updating the status of a roundabout project on the border of Guilford, Branford and North Branford on Friday.
The letter, which is addressed to Cosgrove states:
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Office of Engineering is developing plans to construct a modern roundabout on the border of the Towns of Guilford, Branford, and North Branford, at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Route 22.

The proposed project will construct a modern 3-legged roundabout to replace the existing T-intersection, and remove the spur connection between U.S. Route 1 and Route 22. If required, access to nearby businesses and/or residences will be reconfigured to coincide with the new roadway realignment.
The roundabout is expected to be constructed within the existing roadway limits. Construction of the roundabout will improve safety and efficiency for both vehicular and any potential pedestrian traffic.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in August 2019, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2020, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 80 percent Federal and 20 percent State funds," the letter states.
At the close of the letter it says an informational public meeting will be scheduled once the preliminary designs are completed.
