Emailed Threat Increases Police Presence At High School

Police said one school administrator got an unspecific threatening email this morning. Precautions were taken including beefed up security.

BRANFORD, CT — Branford schools announced an increased police presence at the high school due to an emailed threat.

"This morning the BHS administration received an unspecified threat via email. The information was immediately reported to the police. Working closely with our local police department, necessary precautions were taken with minimal disruption to the academic day. As part of our protocol, there was an increased police presence in and around the building. Period one was extended this morning to allow the school staff time to speak with students. The District will provide an update later today," a message from Superintendent Hamlet Hernandez reads.

Branford Police Deputy Chief John Alves told Patch that a high school administrator "received one unspecific threatening email this morning from an unknown source."

"Working closely with school administrators, Branford Police took necessary precautions and increased presence at schools with minimal disruption to the academic day," Alves said.

He added that anyone who "encounters suspicious behavior" should call police at 203-481-4241.

Police told Patch they are "investigating the source of the threat."
