Collen Plimpton Mentors in the Garden of Life

Mentors in the Garden of Life is a unique collection of funny, sad, touching and memorable stories about the joys of digging in the dirt, written by popular garden columnist and lecturer Colleen Plimpton.

In a style that appeals to gardeners and garden-lovers, the former social worker shares her personal stories of the people who nurtured her gardening interest from childhood, and the unexpected life lessons she learned from morning glories, lilacs, and even dandelions. She concludes each chapter with a profile of the plant around which the story revolved.

As an 11-year-old, Plimpton learned about responsibility the hard way from her first flat of lilies of the valley. From asters and lilacs to potatoes and currants, she learned about fortitude, friendship, patience and peace while family and friends passed on their gardening knowledge, experience and lore. She admits that she also learned a thing or two from the common Eastern toad, white tail deer and other woodland creatures.
