Hammer Field Basketball Court to be Renamed after Former First Selectman

Serving the town in numerous government capacities, civic associations and athletic organizations, ’s Chairman of the Board, Dominic A. Buonocore, will be on Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. with the renaming of the Hammer Field Basketball Court. The public is invited to attend the
ceremony at the Branford Recreation Department, 46 Church St.

Buonocore, a State Representative from the 1992 to 1996, successfully worked the resolution against the desecration of our flag through the state house and senate after three years of defeat. He served as a ranking member of the Executive and Legislative Nominating committees and the Labor and Public Employees, Planning and
Development and General Law committees.

A serviceman from 1950-1954 with the United States NAVY Submarine Services as an Intercommunications Technician in the European Theatre, Dom served as First Selectman in Branford for one term, six terms as second selectman and two terms as the town’s third selectman. He presided on the town council (RTM) for two terms.

Dom served for thirty years as a member of the executive board of the Branford Hills Civic Association and held the offices of President and Vice President. He was Chairman of the Saint Elizabeth Church Council for nine years and co-chaired the American Legion Carnival Committee for 10 years and is an active member of the Branford Legion Post 83.

On the athletic spectrum, Dom coached CYO Basketball for six years, men’s softball for five and was an instrumental coach in Branford Little League, leading teams to five town titles. He later coached in the Branford Recreation Department’s Women’s Softball League and coached one shoreline championship team.

Receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of New Haven and his Master of Science degree from the University of Central Connecticut, Dom is an active board member of the Branford Recreation Department and Co-Chairman of the Robert Marston Easter Egg Hunt the last 12 years.
