ShoreGrass, a bluegrass band from the Connecticut shoreline, will perform at a fundraiser at the 1st Congregational Church, 1009 Main Street in Branford, CT on Sunday afternoon, February 27, 2011 at 3:00.  The concert will take place in the Meeting House followed by refreshments in Pilgrim Hall.  Proceeds will benefit the youth group mission to Ecuador.  Tickets are $10 ($25 per family, under 12 free), available at the door or in advance at the church office. This event is open to the public.

The band's lineup will be comprised of Frank & Barbara Shaw (banjo, guitar and vocals), Paul Pozzi on mandolin, Bill Reveley on fiddle and Joe DeLillo on bass.  Their music is a lively mix of traditional bluegrass, old-time, early country, gospel and folk songs as well as original pieces reflecting their roots in contemporary music, all delivered with the special sense of humor that marks all ShoreGrass performances.  The group has performed locally as well as around the Northeast since 1996.

ShoreGrass has released three albums, including "In Connecticut" (2001), "Songs of the Civil War Era" (2005) and "Going Home" (2007). Bluegrass Unlimited magazine called their latest album "a pleasant collection of down-home music that should attract considerable attention for the band."  Sing Out! magazine called ShoreGrass "a refreshing reminder of what bluegrass music is really all about:  a talented, family-based band that seem to truly relish playing and singing together."  Samples of their music are available on digital outlets such as iTunes or Amazon or on cdbaby.com.

The youth group from this church (led by Linda Smith, minister's wife) makes an annual trip to Guayaquil, Ecuador to build bathrooms and houses in the barrio of Guasmo Sur. Their last trip included 60 members and friends from the area.  The ShoreGrass concert at the church will help raise funds for this year's work trip.

For more information about the concert or to get advance tickets, call the church at (203) 488-7201.  For more information about the band:  www.shoregrass.com.
