Firefighters Train Like Their Lives Depend On It, Because They Do

The simulation had responders rescuing an unconscious "victim" from deep inside a confined space using a rope lowering and hauling system.

BRANFORD, CT — For first responders, there's a saying that firefighters cannot train too much for a job that could kill them. Branford firefighters know the drill and train like their lives depend on it. Because they do.

This week, firefighters had their "annual Confined Space Rescue training refresher."

In that exercise, according to a Branford Fire Department Facebook post, they had to respond to a simulation where a man was "unresponsive in an oxygen deficient atmosphere."

Rescuers' job was to rescue the "victim" via a life safety rope lowering system and get him to safety via a rope hauling system.
