BRANFORD, CT —The dog found in June by good Samaritans behind the Branford Walmart had been left to fend for himself in the sun and heat. Without food or water, he was starving, dehydrated, his was body rife with burns and sores and, his vision was affected as his eyes "appeared burnt," animal rescuers said.

Cared for since by the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, the dog named Justice has found his forever home.

As noted by animal shelter director Laura Burban, when Justice was found, he was "fearful," sick and 20 pounds underweight.

"Over the weeks we’ve had him, Justice has improved in all areas. He’s put on a bunch of weight , his wounds are healing, his spirit was happy and he loved meeting new visitors including children at the shelter," she wrote in a Facebook post announcing the dog has been adopted.

Burban explained that the dog "does have separation anxiety — who could blame him after being abandoned — so his new owner has taken off the week to begin acclimating him to a new schedule and to work with him on feeling safe, secured and loved."
