Happy Tails: Dog Missing Since July Found, Reunited With Owner

The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter Staff shared the amazing story and how the community pitched in to save the dog.

BRANFORD, CT — Once again the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter Staff have shared both an amazing and also a heartwarming story on their social media. A dog that was transported from Tennessee to meet its new owner in Rocky Hill got loose on July 16.

The dog was less than 30 minutes away from his new home. Heartbreaking. The dog, named Boomer, has been on the run ever since and there have been many sightings over the past four months.

The dog was spotted in Branford recently and numerous residents and volunteers allowed traps to be set up at their houses to help find Boomer. Boomer was found this week in a trap and he was taken to the vet and is on the mend and is finally at his new home.

"After we rescued Boomer, we rushed him to the vet and immediately did bloodwork, got him a seresto collar and dewormed him. With all that he has been through he only has minor cuts and bruises. He does have every tick borne disease possible and was loaded with ticks, burrs and other things. He is now on antibiotics and is resting nicely. Thanks to Branford Vet Hospital for taking us in so quickly...Thank You to Everyone for all of your dedication in saving this dog- Teamwork at its best!

The Connecticut Dog Gone Recovery Volunteer Network was instrumental in saving the dog, shelter staff said.
