Home Health Aide Defrauded Client, An Elderly Branford Woman: PD

Zakea Brooks, 41, of New Haven, was charged with 14 counts of illegal use of a credit card owned by the woman she was hired to care for.

BRANFORD, CT — A 41-year-old woman hired as a home health aide was charged with defrauding the elderly woman she worked for, according to Branford police.

Zakea Brooks, of New Haven, turned herself in to police Monday. Her arrest stems from a lengthy investigation after fraudulent charges were found on the victim’s credit card account, Branford police Deputy Chief John Alves said.

The case was investigated by Branford police officer Peter Kendzierski.

Brooks was charged with 14 counts of illegal use of a credit card, two counts of reckless endangerment, one count of sixth-degree larceny and one count of credit card theft.

Brooks posted a $30,000 court set bond. She is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on Jan. 4, 2022.

Brooks, known as Zakea Crawford-Brooks, pleaded guilty to being the getaway driver in a 2014 Woodbridge bank robbery.
