Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K Runners' Forum Set for March 23rd

The Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K is excited to announce the Runners’ Forum! The forum takes place on March 23 at the Waverly Inn in Cheshire at 7 p.m. Beginners to advanced runners are invited to learn more about training routines, biomechanics of running, strength and conditioning techniques, and tips on buying running shoes, clothing and accessories. The general public is invited to attend the event free of cost.
The Runners’ Forum includes speakers from various sport and medical professions. Each speaker will make a brief introduction followed by a Q&A with attendees. Some topics discussed will be training methods for distance running, how to choose the right shoe for your foot, typical running injuries, including evaluation and medical management, manual techniques such as deep friction massage, and joint mobilizations and passive stretching.
Forum speakers include:
• Matt Santillo (Woodbridge Running Company)
• Dr. Jeffrey Delott of Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialist has extensive experience in all aspects of foot and ankle care and a particular interest in sports medicine and foot surgery. He is a member of the American and Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association and a Fellow with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is an attending surgeon and clinical instructor at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Hospital of Saint Raphael and Milford Hospital. He teaches podiatric and orthopedic surgical residents at the Hospital of Saint Raphael and Yale-New Haven Hospital. He currently provides care to athletes from Quinnipiac and Yale University and volunteers time to area high schools and youth programs. Dr. DeLott is a Cheshire resident and avid triathlete and marathon finisher.
• Dr. Stephanie Arlis-Mayor of Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialist is Board Certified in Family Practice and Primary Care Sports Medicine. As a specialist in Primary Care Sports Medicine, she focuses on the nonsurgical musculoskeletal and medical problems of athletes. She manages patients with osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and overuse injuries. She assists patients in their return to athletics after injury or illness, executes pre-participation sports examinations and care of athletes with acute or chronic medical illnesses that affect sports and fitness. She has a special interest and expertise in sports related concussion management including neuropsychological testing. She also has vast knowledge and experience with treating injuries unique to the female athlete.
• Kirsten Albrecht, owner of Physical Therapy and Pilates Restoration, L.L.C., is orthopedic specialized as a physical therapist and a certified Pilates practitioner through Polestar Education. Albrecht’s therapy and restoration center is an out-patient physical therapy practice in Cheshire specializing in Pilates rehabilitation and Pilates for wellness.

The forum will help prepare runners for the 5th Annual Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K. The event is expecting over 3,000 participants and features a half marathon, relay, 5K, Ion Insurance Kids Fun Run. The event also features the UnitedHealthcare Healthy & Active Living Festival. The Cheshire Half Marathon and 5K, Inc. supports organizations that assist special needs individuals and their families. This year’s race benefits Abilities Without Boundaries, SARAH Foundation, Best Buddies CT, Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Cheshire Lions Club.
