Jack Ahern Retiring from Branford Fire Department After 35 Years of Service

Ahern served as chief of the fire department for 12 years.

Branford Fire Chief Jack Ahern is retiring after 35 years of service, the Branford Seven reports.

Out of his 35 years of service, Ahern served 12 years as chief.

According to the paper, Ahern will be taking a position in the private sector. First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove is expected keep Ahern as part of the town’s emergency management team.

On their Facebook page, the fire department congratulated Ahern on the announcement saying it was an honor to serve under him as chief.

On the Facebook page, Ahern said, “The honor has been mine. The men and women of Local 2533 and the entire department are among the most respected and professional firefighter’s in the State. They have all made it a pleasure to come to work everyday and the entire town can rest assured that they are protected by the best. Thank you all, but, you still have to put up with me for another couple of month’s!”
