June 2 Gun Violence Awareness Day In Branford Proclaimed By Selectmen
Begun with a request from RTM minority leader Tracy Everson, BOS proclaimed town's participation in National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
BRANFORD, CT — Wear orange today June 2, Branford, in solidarity with the now town-approved participation in the National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Recently, RTM minority leader Tracy Everson wrote to First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove, Second Selectman Angie Higgins and Third Selectman Ray Dunbar on behalf of the Democratic Caucus to ask that the town proclaim June 2 as Gun Violence Awareness Day in Branford.
"By doing so you will join our town with concerned citizens throughout Connecticut and across the nation who will be participating in Wear Orange activities to observe the eighth annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day," she wrote.

"With two of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history in just the past two weeks, we need elected officials everywhere to proclaim, 'Enough.' You can do that by joining other municipal leaders around Connecticut who are issuing proclamations," Everson wrote. "Thank you for all you do to keep our town safe, especially during these unprecedented times."
Wednesday night, at the Board of Selectmen meeting, by unanimous vote, leaders agreed.

"We, the Branford Board of Selectmen, do hereby declare June 2, 2022 Gun Violence Awareness Day in Branford and encourage residents to Wear Orange to call attention to the crisis of gun violence, signal our commitment to reducing gun violence in all its forms, and implore gun owners in our community to be responsible owners and properly secure any firearms in their home to prevent another senseless tragedy."
