BRANFORD, CT — Not surprisingly, there was a line Thursday morning outside the brand-new Aldi for its grand opening. The first 100 customers were to receive a gift card as part of its Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program.

A year after its final approval from the town's planning and zoning commission, the no-frills discount German family-owned grocer opened days before originally planned.
