Local artist Mark Johnson died this past Thursday, Sept. 22, unexpectedly – a full obituary will follow.
While the details are still being worked out, family and friends are planning a memorial for Johnson, according to those close with the family.
This morning, his mother Pat Johnson, a Branford resident, said she and her family are still in shock over the loss. “He was a well-liked guy,” she said. “We are all suffering.”

Johnson has been commissioned most recently to depict the Stony Creek Puppet House and was selling his paintings at Indian Neck Garage this summer.
Johnson is well known for his paintings of the Branford Festival, which span decades.
