How do you know the local hero?
She is a friend and an amazing businesswoman
What does the local hero do?
She is the owner of Salon Refuge, a hair salon
Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?
Nicole opened her salon on Main Street 13 years ago and has shared her talent with so many. She has given back to school haircuts free of charge to a number of students, too many to count. She has offered her salon to those who had no power during Hurricanes Irene and Sandy when the salon was restored; she called her clients and invited them to come wash and dry their hair free of charge. She and her stylists have reached out to some who were ill and needed a service, a hair cut, blow dry, whatever it was, they provided free of charge. She then opened Envy, a woman's boutique next door to the salon. Everyone loved this boutique and were saddened to see it close, but she had to because she realized it was difficult to juggle both businesses and her two children in school and sports.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?
She is your friend. She is everyone's friend. She will go above and beyond to make sure everyone is taken care of; first and foremost her family, her salon family, as well as her clients and the residents in town. She will be closing her salon at the end of this month, and that decision was a very hard one to make. Sometimes we have to prioritize our lives in making it simpler, more enjoyable while eliminating the "work" part of it. With much grace she is thanking all of her clients, and her stylists and moving on to her new adventure. She will be renting a space at The Cutting Page Salon which is located right behind her salon on Park Place
Main Street will not be the same without her salon, but we are all very happy for her, for all of her stylists, who are moving on to their next chapter, and they will all be missed
Thank you for all you do, Nicole Hitchcock !
