Longtime Athlete John Canning Shines at Special Olympics Winter Games

Branford's beloved resident and local icon shares his good news about the Connecticut Special Olympics Winter Games held this weekend.

John Canning as been a Connecticut Special Olympics athlete for more than two decades and participates in the winter and summer games as well as unified softball. This past weekend at the Connecticut Special Olympics Winter Games, Canning earned three medals – two bronze and one silver – in cross country skiing events held at the CL&P Service Center in Simsbury. Q: How were the games?
A:
I had a good time. I had a ball and the food was pretty good.

Q: What do you like best about the winter games?
A: Racing. I like competing.
