Mike Olt Mania Happens Here

The new Texas Ranger with Branford roots dressed for Aug.7 game against the Boston Red Sox and we had boots on the ground Tweeting updates about the game for you from Bean Town.

The Texas Rangers have confirmed that will be playing infield tonight when the Major League Baseball team faces the Boston Red Sox for a second time. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. 

Branford Patch is lucky enough to have Matt White, 2012 graduate and friend of Olt live Tweeting from the game. Olt, a 2007 BHS graduate on Aug. 2 against the Los Angeles Angels after playing for the Rangers' minor league team. An ESPN blog noted at the time of his signing, Olt was hitting “.287 with 27 homers and 81 RBIs for Double-A Frisco.”

The night of his start against Los Angeles on Aug. 2, with his parents, Beverly and George Olt in attendance at the game, Olt received a standing ovation. He hit a single at his first at-bat and scored one run. He batted again two times while a at Branford’s watched on TV. Olt’s brothers Brad and Tyler Olt work at the Owenego; he also has another brother, Chris Olt.

Olt has played two games against the Kansas City Royals since his debut with four total at-bats and one run scored. The Texas Rangers released a story Monday stating that “Olt was out early working with manager Ron Washington… one day after committing a throwing error that brought home the winning run in the Rangers' 7-6 loss in 10 innings to the Royals.” 

Olt has an average of .286 as he prepares for tonight's game – the Rangers loss to the Red Sox last night 9-2. In addition to White attending the game tonight, Olt's family will also be in attendance. If you're there, be sure to Tweet @BranfordPatch!
