New Mill Rate Increase Set for Branford

Gov. Dannel Malloy's budget proposal is bad news for Branford taxpayers.

BRANFORD, CT — The Branford Board of Finance passed a new mill rate before the June 1 deadline as local leaders still wait to see what aid it will get from the state.

The Board of Finance set the new mill rate at 3.85 percent increase, according to Branford Seven. The budget takes into account Gov. Dannel Malloy's budget proposal, which would crush aid for the town. Without it Branford would only be looking at a 1.5 percent increase.

Money left over from the fund balance was used to mitigate an even larger tax increase of 7.64 percent.
