BRANFORD, CT — Before the two armed robberies at Branford gas stations last week, police had been on the lookout for a suspect that had fled the scene of an East Haven robbery, and a suspect who carjacked a vehicle at the I-95 NB rest area in Branford.

Police said they'd later learn that the same person was responsible for all these crimes.

Marc Lawrence Judd, 44 of North Branford, was charged with three counts of first-degree robbery, engaging an officer in a pursuit and fifth-degree larceny. Court records show he's held on at least $200,000 bail and is being held at the New Haven Correctional Center. He's due in court Nov. 10.

Police described how the investigation unfolded, ending with Judd's arrest:

On Oct. 27, two armed robberies occurred at gas stations in Branford. At 7:19 p.m., Evan’s Mobil on North Main Street reported a robbery. Twelve minutes later, a call was received from Chucky’s Mobil on East Main Street. Prior to these incidents, officers were on the lookout for a robbery suspect that fled the scene of a robbery in East Haven, and a suspect who carjacked a vehicle at the I-95 NB rest area in Branford.

Employees of Evan’s Mobil reported a male suspect displayed a knife and fled without getting any money. A Branford officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle get on the I-95 NB Exit 54 ramp at a very high rate of speed. A second Branford officer who was at a post at Exit 56 off-ramp observed the vehicle exit the highway. This officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle which again entered the highway northbound at a high rate of speed and engaged the Officer in a brief pursuit before the pursuit was terminated due to excessively high speeds.

A short time later, a second robbery was then reported at Chucky’s Mobil where the same suspect displayed a knife and took cash, approximately $600, out of the drawer before fleeing the scene. There were no reported injuries during either of these incidents.

Detectives and officers from both Branford and East Haven police departments found that the initial attempted robbery in East Haven involved the same suspect. The suspect was positively identified as Judd.

A day later, on Oct. 28, Branford police detectives found a stolen vehicle in North Branford and arrested Judd, who they said was "cooperative with detectives admitting to attempting a third robbery in Branford which had not been reported to the police."

Judd still faces charges from the East Haven police and the Connecticut State Police in connection with their cases.
