OBIT: Branford Deputy Fire Chief Ronald R. Mullen

Mullen served as a 34-year member of the Branford Fire Department and was very well-respected in his field.

Deputy Chief Ronald R. Mullen, B. F. D., died Wednesday October 14, 2015. He was the husband of Alicia Aniello Mullen.

Ron was born in New Haven October 6, 1960, son of Helen Kaliszewski Mullen of Branford, and the late Chief Peter F. Mullen, B. F. D.

He was a 1978 graduate of Branford High School and graduated from W. C. S. U. He began his fire career as a cadet in 1976 and became part of the professional staff in 1981. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1984, which became the rank of Deputy Chief, serving to the present time.

He was an adjunct professor in Fire Science at the University of New Haven, and was also an instructor at the Connecticut Fire Academy. Ron was a highly respected fire investigator whose testimony was crucial in many arson trials.

Besides his wife and mother, Ron is survived by his children, Connor, Chris and Cash Mullen, all of Branford; his step-children, Zack and Nick Tuchmann of Branford; his brother, Michael (Barbara) Mullen of Branford; and his sister, Eileen (Keith) Crane of Branford, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday morning at 11:00 in St. Mary Church, Branford. THERE ARE NO CALLING HOURS.
