Obituary: Alfred Brigante SR, 90, of Branford

He was a long time parishioner and usher at St. Mary Church in Branford.

Alfred Brigante SR, son of Joseph and Antoinette Brigante passed away at the West Haven V.A. Medical Center on Saturday, July 9, 2016 with his family by his side.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Brigante, two daughters, Ann Parisi and JoAnn Viscuso, and a granddaughter, Melissa Marottoli Hogan.

He leaves behind his life partner of 23 years, Pat Ballaro, daughters, Marcy Coart, (Peter), Mary Mathis (Chris -Philip Onofrio), Ali Marottoli (Salvatore) and son, Alfred Brigante Jr (Lorraine). He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as well as his sister, Florence Cocchiaro and his brother Joseph Brigante.

He was born in New Haven on May 26, 1926. He was a WWII veteran serving as an M.P. with the 740 M.P. Battalion, 5th Army and also served as a medic with the 118th Medical Battalion, 43rd division in the National Guard.

Al was past Grand Knight in the 3rd degree of the Knights of Columbus, Eldorado Council 10, and a Sir Knight in the 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus. He worked for Bigelow Boilers as a layout man and later retired from Metal Masters as a supervisor and co-owner.

He was a long time parishioner and usher at St. Mary Church in Branford. He also designed and implemented the beautiful monument at St. Mary Church in memory of the unborn. Al enjoyed 29 years of retirement with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer, great horse racing handicapper and had a great talent for retention of details.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:00 am, St. Mary Church, Branford, CT. Al had touched so many lives and he will be sadly missed by all.
