Obituary: Alice Z. Austin, 86, of Branford

Alice Z. Austin of Branford passed away Saturday May 21, 2022 at Branford Hills Health Care Center. She was the devoted wife of the late William V. Austin, Sr.

Alice was born February 11, 1936 in New Haven, the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret Cuny Zimkowski.

Alice was a longtime employee of the Southern New England Telephone Company. Upon her retirement from SNET in 1989 Alice was a dedicated poll worker for the State of Connecticut. In 2007 Alice was honored by Susan Bysiewicz with the Secretary of State’s Public Service Award for her years of dedication. Alice was a devout communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford and prayed the rosary daily.

Alice is survived by her niece Martha (Michael) Moffa, nephew David Zimkowski, great nephew Michael Brady, Cousin Ellen Kasynak, stepdaughters, Deborah (Louis) Porrello, Doreen (Mark) Esposito, stepson William (Michelle) Austin, Jr, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice was also predeceased by her first husband Anthony J. Lipkvich and her brother Robert Leo Zimkowski.

Alice’s family would like to thank the staff at Branford Hills Health Care Center for the care and kindness shown to her during her time there.Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Saturday June 4, 2022 at 11:00 am in the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, with burial to follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Visitation prior to the service from 9:30 – 11:00 AM.
