Obituary: Ann Etzel McDonald, 89, of Branford

She worked as a social worker for Grace-New Haven Hospital, after which she lovingly devoted her life to her family.

Ann Etzel McDonald, of Branford, died peacefully at home Sunday October 8, 2017. She was the beloved widow of Robert McDonald. Ann was born in New Haven December 10, 1927, daughter of the late George and Nora Spillane Etzel. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1945 and attended Albertus Magnus College where she acquired her degree in Medical Social Work.

She worked as a social worker for Grace-New Haven Hospital, after which she lovingly devoted her life to her family. Ann is survived by her children, Dennis (Elizabeth) McDonald, Mary McDonald, Martin McDonald and Eileen McDonald (Jerry Ganzle); her grandchildren, Ian and David McDonald, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, George, David and Frank Etzel. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness of friends and family and loving care provided by the Smilow Medical Center, the hospice professionals and the home caregivers.

Friends are invited to a memorial Mass of Christian Burial Friday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary Church, Branford. Burial will be private. The W. S.
