Branford Scouting has been building citizenship, leadership skills, and a spirit of adventure in youth for over 10 years, serving ages 5–20 through four dynamic programs. Through experiential learning, Branford scouts experience adventures from ice climbing to sailing in the Florida Keys, with campouts all year round for our older scouts. Our commitment to country is reflected in where we meet—serving our veterans at Branford’s VFW Post 12106—and through meaningful experiences like our recent trip to Washington, D.C., where scouts participated in the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery and presented a wreath in honor of our fallen heroes. Our younger Cub Scouts also demonstrate patriotism by marching in parades and placing flags at cemeteries, just like their older peers. They enjoy fun and discovery at weekly meetings and through memorable outings, such as an overnight at the Norwalk Maritime Center, sleeping aboard the World War II battleship USS Massachusetts, and exploring the EcoTarium museum. This year, our Cubs will experience an evening at the New England Air Museum. Branford Scouting services the town of Branford and well beyond. Information via PORTO FUNERAL HOME  Barbara A. Kwieraga Renckowski 80, of East Haven beloved wife of the late Edward P. Renckowski passed away on September 19, 2016 in CT. Hospice.   Loving mother of Debbie Griffith of East Haven and the late Betty Renckowski. Grandmother of Michael and Tyler Griffith. Sister of the late Edward and her twin James Kwieraga. Barbara was born in San Antone, TX on April 16, 1936 daughter of the late Edward and Cecilia Sobieski Kwieraga and step-daughter of the late Elfriede Schield Kwieraga.   Prior to her retirement Barbara was a housekeeper for Branford Hill's Heatlh Center.   Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80) East Haven SATURDAY morning at 9:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call FRIDAY from 6pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Debbie Griffith Go Fund Me Page.

New Haven Ballet Presents The Sleeping Beauty at the Shubert Theatre
This spring, New Haven Ballet invites audiences across Greater New Haven to experience the magic of classical ballet with The Sleeping Beauty, coming to the historic Shubert Theatre on Saturday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m.
Perfect for young audiences and longtime dance lovers alike, this enchanting production brings Princess Aurora’s beloved story to life through storybook magic and the sweeping score of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Thoughtfully adapted for today’s audiences, the performance offers a welcoming introduction to ballet while keeping all the beauty and wonder that has made this fairytale a classic for generations.
The heart of this production is the dancers themselves.
Students ages 4 to 18 will take the stage after months of dedication and artistic growth, sharing a performance that celebrates not only technique, but creativity, confidence, and joy. For many young performers, it’s a meaningful milestone and a chance to experience the excitement of live theater together.
For more than 40 years, New Haven Ballet has helped young dancers grow both on and off the stage, with many students continuing on to prestigious summer intensives, conservatories, and professional dance careers.
In addition to The Sleeping Beauty, the program will feature contemporary and Broadway inspired works, along with performances by the School’s Shared Ability artists. Together, the pieces reflect New Haven Ballet’s commitment to creating a space where every dancer can learn, grow, and shine.
Artistic Director Lisa Kim shares, “This performance is a chance for our students to come together and share what they have been working toward all year. We hope it inspires everyone in the audience.”
Following the performance, children and families are invited to meet the fairies from the ballet, a magical moment younger audience members won’t soon forget.
With a running time of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission, the performance is ideal for both first time balletgoers and devoted fans of dance.
