Obituary: Carole (Benson) Hinners of Branford

The Hinners' were pioneers in the beginnings of online dating before the Internet and received acknowledgment on local television.

Carole (Benson) Hinners of Branford, CT, loving wife and best friend of William R. Hinners, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness.

Carole was born in Los Angeles, CA to the late Alma and Emil Benson, and was predeceased by her half-sister Lois Lamberg Berg. She grew up in Alhambra, CA where she attended Alhambra High School. She went on to Pasadena City College and Cal State LA where she received her BA in art.
Carole and Bill began corresponding online in 1991, and were married in June, 1992.

They were pioneers in the beginnings of online dating before the Internet and received acknowledgment on local television and in People magazine. They went on to work for the Prodigy online service managing a bulletin board and chat area. Carole spent time every day on her computer staying in touch with family and old friends.

Carole loved to travel and began seeing the world at a young age. She and Bill continued to travel throughout the country. They also enjoyed cruising and made many life-long friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, April 28 from 5 – 8 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Anyone that knew Carole knows of her compassion for cats, therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forgotten Felines, P.O. Box 734, Clinton, CT 06413; or a charity of choice.
