Obituary: Constance M. Coombs, 82, of Branford

Constance M. Coombs of Branford, died Wednesday May 31, 2017 at her home. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Coombs, Jr. She is survived by her children; William J. (Jennifer) Coombs, Jacqueline (Brian) Henzler and Victoria (Bruce) Mangels; her grandchildren, Briana Henzler, Jackson Mangels and Walter John Coombs; and her sister Barbara Filardi. She was predeceased by her sons Walter E. Coombs and Joseph Coombs; and her sisters, Margaret Valente and Jeanne Shear.
Connie was born in New Haven July 19, 1938, daughter of the late Eugene and Margaret Healy Dolecki. In her younger years she was employed by the former AC Gilbert Toy Company in New Haven, then later after all her children were grown, she worked at the former Branford Motor Inn for many years before retiring. She enjoyed bowling with her twin sister Butch and she passed the time at home by doing many crafts to keep busy. She enjoyed being a mother to her children for as long as possible.

She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren whenever they came to visit and spent a lot of time with Jackson while he was growing. She loved when Briana would come to visit from Florida and she could have all of her grandchildren close for a while. Her grandson Walter was only a block away and would visit often just to sit and watch TV.
She was very proud of her late son Walter and his service in the USMC. She would always write him, sometimes daily. She put up a stubborn fight for very long and will be sadly missed, but will be with her loved ones where she felt most comfortable.

Her family wishes to give a special thanks to Julia and Lydia Secenski for their care and companionship while staying with Connie.Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service Saturday morning at 10:00 in the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may call prior to the funeral from 8:00-10:00. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Saint Mary School, 62 Cedar Street, Branford, CT 06405.
