Obituary: Dennis Hobbs, 85, of Branford

He went to work for Atlantic Wire Company in Branford after serving in the British Army.

Dennis Hobbs of Branford, died Wednesday February 17, 2016 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Judith Finta Hobbs.

Mr. Hobbs was born September 24, 1935 in Caerphilly, South Wales. He served in the British Army and graduated from Swansea University, as a metallurgist.

He immigrated to the USA in 1968 and went to work for Atlantic Wire Company in Branford. He worked for many different wire companies, retiring as the manager of Auburn Wire in Auburn, MA.

Besides his wife, Dennis is survived by his children, Gillian (David) Hobbs Wagar of Hummelstown, PA, Robert Hobbs of Cromwell, Ian (Nancy) Hobbs of Branford, and Cheryl (Sean) Overmyer of Madison, AL; his step-sons, John Barone of N. C. and Erik (Kristin) Barone of Branford; his sister Jean Knott of South Wales, and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Norma Blair Smith Hobbs, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Monday evening from 5 – 7 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford.
