Obituary: Eleanor D. Tucker, 92, Formerly of Branford
"I would like to be remembered as someone who did the best I could. I loved life and had a good time!"
Eleanor D. Tucker, 92, formerly of Branford, CT, passed away on July 22, 2020, in Chatham, MA. Her husband, Lawrence, from Short Beach predeceased her in 1980. Born on August 22, 1927 to Frances and Harry Domijan in New Britain, CT, Eleanor moved to New Haven to live with her Polish grandparents, Adam and Jessie Modzelewski, and her aunts, Catherine and Anna, when she was four years old. She attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School, studying in both English and Polish. Eleanor graduated with honors from New Haven Commercial High School. Upon graduation, she worked for the accounting firm of Seward and Monde as a bookkeeper, secretary and statistical typist.
On a blind date, she met Larry Tucker from Short Beach and married him five years later on September 25, 1954, at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven. Their first and only vacation together was a cross-country honeymoon. Over the next 26 years, they raised five children: Paul, Sarah, David, Chris and Michael. Eleanor became an active member of St. Mary’s Church, the Ladies Guild and St. Mary’s Parochial School.
