Obituary: ​Ellen "Nell" O'Donnell Kinney, 94, of Branford

Nell has been a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford for over 70 years, and worked in the cafeteria at St. Mary School for many years.

Ellen "Nell" O'Donnell Kinney of Branford, died Tuesday March 7, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Kinney, Jr.

Nell was born June 27, 1922 in Townsville, Australia, daughter of the late William and Gertrude Morrill O'Donnell. Nell has been a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford for over 70 years, and worked in the cafeteria at St. Mary School for many years.

In 2003, she received the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford, and in 2004 she received the Christian Leadership Award from St. Mary School in Branford.

In April 2007, she was honored at the Australian WWII War Brides Tribute in Washington D. C. Nell is survived by her children, Frank J. (Lois) Kinney, III of Branford, Mary "Mimi" (Wayne) Fox of Stamford, William (Marilyn) Kinney of East Dorset, VT, Kathleen (Bob) Xeller of Branford, John (Regina) Kinney of Seymour, Michael Kinney of Branford, James (Lois) Kinney of Clinton, Thomas Kinney of New Haven, Daniel Kinney of Branford, Stephen (Terri) Kinney of Old Saybrook, and Patrick (Paula) Kinney of Guilford. Nell is also survived by her 30 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Donald Kinney; her great-grandson Kevin Daniel Jacobs; her brothers, William and Jack O'Donnell and her sister Kathleen Gillman.

Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:00 in St. Mary Church, Branford.
