Obituary: Ernest G. Fritz, 95, of Branford

He held the rank of Major and served in the U. S. Air Force in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Ernest G. Fritz of Branford passed away on Wednesday February 17, 2016 at the Madison House in Madison, CT. He was born October 22, 1920 in Waterbury, CT son of the late Ernest G. and Doris Fritz. Ernest attended Crosby High School and graduated from the former Bell Preparatory School in Tennessee.

He held the rank of Major and served in the U. S. Air Force in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was trained as a glider pilot. His battles and campaigns included Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.

After leaving the military he completed is education at the University of Colorado, where he received his degree in science. In the sixties he returned to Connecticut, and in the 1967-68 academic year he taught at the former Richard C. Lee High School in New Haven and from 1968 until his retirement in 1986 he was a science teacher at Crosby High School in Waterbury.

He leaves to cherish his memory his dear friend and companion, Mary Lowery of Branford.

Friends are invited to a funeral service Monday morning at 10:00 in the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may call prior to the funeral from 9 – 10 am. Burial, with military honors, will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an organization of your choice.
