Frances A. Massaro (maiden name Consiglio) of Branford Connecticut died Friday, January 27, 2017. She was 92 years old. Born in New Haven on December 3, 1924, Frances attended grammar school and high school in New Haven. She was the oldest daughter of Frank and Mary (Maselli) Consiglio.Married in 1945, Frances and her husband Anthony owned and operated a restaurant, the Guilford Spa, in Guilford, CT.
They later opened the Branfordshire country store in Branford, CT. One of Frances’ mostpopular country store items was penny candy. Her country store became known for this and for the fourteen years she had the store, Branford residents liked to gather there and always called her the “Penny Candy Lady.”

In retirement Frances was an active member of Branford’s Compassion Club, an organization that cares for stray animals. She also took great pleasure in drawing animals, particularly cats and birds.Frances is survived by her husband Anthony Massaro, her son Marc-Anthony Massaro of Branford, a brother William Consiglio of Hamden, and two sisters-Rose Sinischalchi of North Haven and Anne Kossack of Florida.
Frances is predeceased by a brother Salvatore Consiglio of North Haven and sister Theresa Vischio of Hamden.

Viewing hours will be on Thursday, February 2nd at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St Guilford, from 4 to 7 pm. Friends and relatives are welcome to attend. Mass will be on Friday February 3rd at 11AM at Saint Therese’s Church on Leetes Island Road in Branford. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Cemetery in Hamden, CT.
