Obituary: Francis Daniel Torino, Jr., 77, of Branford

Francis Daniel Torino, Jr., a lifetime resident of Branford, passed away on November 9, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Francis was born May 8, 1939 and was the son of the late Francis Daniel Torino, Sr. and Vera D'Amico Torino.

Francis is survived by his loving wife Margaret Elizabeth Stankowiz Torino, his brother Richard (Barbara)Torino, sister Alice (Richard) McGowan and sister-in-laws Dorothy (Augusto) Franco and Dolores Giles. Francis graduated from Eli Whitney in 1958 and then served in the U.S. Army. He was a toolmaker for nearly 50 years before he retired.

Francis was a long time member of the Branford Italian American Club and an avid poker player who enjoyed playing cards on Friday nights with his card buddies.

Francis is also survived by his children Cathy DiNoto of Branford, Donna (Bill) Pherson of East Haven, Patti Roberts of East Haven and Tina (Greg) Ritt of Albuquerque, NM., and grandchildren Darce (Keith) DeCosta, Jesse Torino, Ashley (Charles) Mulligan, Matthew DiNoto, Josh DiNoto, Zack DiNoto, Kirk (Danielle) Roberts and Kristopher Roberts."Poppy" was the loving great-grandfather to Justin and Bela Osler, Francesca DeCosta, Jake and Emalia Mulligan, Ian and Makayla Torino, Jayden and Arlaina Torino, and Kinity Roberts.

A mass will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. at Short Beach Union Church, 11 Pentecost Street, Branford. Interment to follow at 2p.m. in St Agnes Cemetery, Branford. The family will receive friends at the Branford Elks Club, 158 S. Montowese Street, Branford on Wednesday evening from 3 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Short Beach Hose, Hook, and Ladder Company Four, P.O. Box 2356 Branford, CT 06405.
