Obituary: ​Frederick “Freddie” Kroll, of Branford

Frederick “Freddie” Kroll died peacefully at home on October 25, 2018 at the age of 95. Freddie was predeceased by his wife Katherine Duffy Kroll and his son Frederick J. Kroll. Freddie is survived by his dear friends Peter Curley, Peter DeFrank, Robert Keating and Beth Mishler with whom he resided.

Freddie is also survived by his cousin, Duncan (Sue) Craig of Guilford, and their children, Robert Craig of Guilford, David Craig of Durham, Susan Mikula of Guilford, Sharon Criscuolo of Guilford, Melissa Kalfus of Branford, Melynda Grainger of Middlefield, his brother-in-law Edward Duffy of Las Vegas, and his nieces Marybeth Duffy of Boston and Helen Marie Robbins Ellis of Las Vegas.

Freddie was a decorated combat veteran of World War II, having been a “tanker” in the Third Armored Division, one of the first armored divisions to liberate the concentration camps as the war ended. After the war, Freddie returned home to Hamden and married the love of his life, Katherine “Kay” Duffy, and started his own carpentry business and became a master carpenter.

Freddie and Kay resided both in Hamden and Northford for many years before finally moving to Guilford. Freddie was always ready to lend a helping hand especially to members of Alcoholics Anonymous of which Freddie was a proud and active member for more than 42 years.Freddie’s family would like to thank all the friends, caregivers (especially Kim and Lisa), Branford Hills In-Home Care, Vitas in Home Hospice Care (Brittany, Sabine, Melissa, Denise, Leann, Aurea and Melody) who provided loving, compassionate companionship and care to Freddie during his final months and days.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on the Branford green on Saturday November 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM, followed immediately by a reception in the parish hall.
