Obituary: Gerard T. “Gerry” Hynes, 63, of Branford

A printer and longtime football referee, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed crabbing and fishing at the Branford dock.

Gerard T. “Gerry” Hynes of Branford died Sunday August 8, 2021 at his home. Gerry was born November 13, 1957 in Bronx, NY son of Ann (Nancy) Lardner Hynes of Branford and the late William S. Hynes.

He worked as a printer for the Knights of Columbus in New Haven for over 30 years prior to retiring. Gerry was a longtime football referee with the New Haven Football Officials Association (NHFOA). He was an avid golfer and was a member for many years in the Eel Pot Golf League at Alling Memorial Golf Course. Gerry also enjoyed crabbing and fishing at the Branford dock.

In addition to his mother Ann (Nancy), Gerry is survived by his wife Kathy Palaia Hynes of Branford, his son Daniel (Sarah) Hynes, MD of Virginia; his grandchildren, Nathan and William Hynes of VA; his siblings, Rosanne Hynes of Alexandria, VA, Christopher (Liz) Hynes of Branford, Kevin (Lynn) Hynes of Yarmouth, ME, Karen (Jim) Kachadorian of Wilton, CT and William (Laura) Hynes of Needham, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
