Obituary: ​Irene M. Bentley of Branford

She worked as a unit clerk at the Hospital of St. Raphael for 17 years before retiring.

Irene M. Bentley of Branford, died Monday at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Bentley. Irene was born in New Haven October 8, 1934, daughter of the late Michael and Delia McCarthy of Co. Clare, Ireland.

She worked as a unit clerk at the Hospital of St. Raphael for 17 years before retiring. Irene enjoyed her time by the water, especially during her boat rides, and was an avid NY Yankees and NE Patriots fan.

She also served as a Resident Commissioner at Parkside Village. Irene is survived by her children, Kathleen (Tim) Blundon of Madison, Kelly (Timothy) Proctor of Guilford, and Robert (Jackie) Bentley of Spring Glen, FL. The pride and joy of her life was her grandchildren, Timothy Briggs (fiancé Amanda Barrick) of Charlotte, NC, Katherine Blundon and Robert Blundon of Madison, Timothy Proctor and Kelsey (Breana) Proctor of Guilford, and Aliyah Bentley of FL. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Nesdale of North Haven, and several nieces and nephews. Her family would like to give a special thank you to her niece Meg for her help and inspiration during Irene’s final illness. She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Allen and her brothers, Timothy, Henry and George McCarthy.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Monday morning from 10:00 - 12:00, with a funeral service at 12:00 in the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
