Obituary: James L. Tierney, Sr., 86, of Branford

A Navy veteran, he was a Class A tool & die-maker​, an avid fisherman, a reader of history, a railroad enthusiast, and a devoted family man.

James L. Tierney, Sr. of Branford died Tuesday May 31, 2022 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Carmela Nuzzo Tierney.

Mr. Tierney was born February 6, 1936 in New Haven, son of the late John J. and Melvina Benoit Tierney.

He served in the U. S. Navy. Jim worked as a Class A Tool & Die maker for many years, ending at Triangle Tools. He was an avid fisherman, an avid reader of history and other subjects, a lifelong member of the Railroad Enthusiasts, and a devoted family man.

Besides his wife, Jim is survived by his children, James L. Tierney, Jr of Cocoa, FL and Barbara DuBois of Vermont, his grandchildren, Jennifer Tierney and Rebecca DuBois and his great-grandchildren, Ben, Autumn and Dominic. He was predeceased by his siblings, Jack Tierney and Rosemary Gagliardi.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Thursday, June 9, at 11:00 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may call prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
