Obituary: John David Piscitello, 79, formerly of Branford

John David Piscitello, of Windsor, passed away July 21, 2023 in New York City. He was born in Branford December 2, 1943, the beloved son of Frank and Helen (Sokolosky) Piscitello. John was a 1961 graduate of Branford High School and a 1965 graduate of Central Connecticut State College, where he made the first of many lifelong friendships.

John is survived by his sister, Elaine Klarman of Branford; his brother-in-law, Thomas Santa Barbara, niece, Anne MacKinnel, and nephew, Thomas Santa Barbara, all of Branford; his nephews Mark Klarman of New York City and David Klarman, Jr. of Meriden; several great nieces and nephews; his friend of 53 years, Raymond Link, who was like a brother to him; and many other special friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Santa Barbara, and brother-in-law, David Klarman, Sr.

John began his teaching career immediately after graduating from Central, ultimately retiring from the Bloomfield School District in 2000, having earned the admiration and affection of generations of colleagues who became treasured friends. After his retirement, John pursued his passion for bridge, enjoying regular games with his friends Robert, Carla and Wayne, among many others. When not playing bridge, he enjoyed Friday night cribbage parties with his friend Allan. Away from the gaming tables, John enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad with family and friends. His loyalty, kindness and generosity will be sorely missed and long remembered.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, July 26 from 4pm – 7pm in the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, with a visitation Thursday, July 27 prior to the funeral from
9:00 – 11:00 am, with a service at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford.
