Obituary: John A. M. “Big John” Hartman, 69, of Branford
He is a direct descendent of Roger Alling, one of the founders of New Haven Colony.

John A. M. “Big John” Hartman of Branford died Wednesday November 29, 2017 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Linda Miller Hartman. John was born September 1, 1948 in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Edna Alling Mason Hartman. He was a graduate of Keene State College and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Bridgeport.
He worked as a guidance counselor for Brown Middle School in Madison and Kurn Hattin School in Westminster, VT. He left school counseling and became a professional musician, working for Horizon Tours among other engagements. He is a direct descendent of Roger Alling, one of the founders of New Haven Colony. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Jane (Trevor) MacLachlan of Walpole, NH and Joanne (Antonio) Martinez of New Haven; his step-sons, Brian Stapelfeldt of Roswell, GA and Dennis Stapelfeldt of Norwalk, CT; his step-daughter, Melissa "Missy" Giove of NC; and his grandchildren, Gabriella and Zechariah Martinez and Lauren, Caroline and Ian MacLachlan.
