Obituary: John Robert Allen, 75, of Branford

John Robert Allen of Branford, CT passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022 at the age of 75.
He was predeceased by his parents Mavis and Roscoe Allen. He is survived by his brother
Stephen Allen of Branford, CT, nephew Chris Allen of Branford, CT, niece Shena Allen of
Pleasant Hill, CA, and niece Casey Allen of Branford, CT.

John grew up with his family in Milford, CT graduating from Milford Academy in 1964. He
then went on to serve his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the
Vietnam War from 1966 until his honorable discharge in May of 1972. He had received
numerous Air Medals and as many as six Oak Leaf Clusters during his tour of duty. After his
return home, he enrolled at University of Connecticut where he received a Liberal Studies
degree in 1973.

John found work and excelled at fine finish carpentry. Much of his work can be found up
and down the surrounding shoreline towns. From mantles, trim, to built-ins, John was quite
detailed in his craft. During his spare time he would enjoy rock hunting, often sharing his finds
with his nieces and nephew. He also enjoyed going to the racetrack in Saratoga, camping in his
earlier years, and coin collecting. Later in life he could often be found having a spirited
conversation with friends at Tommy Sullivans or The American Legion Hall with fellow veterans.

There is no service planned at this time, however a celebration of life may be planned at
a later date.
