Obituary: John V. Olejarczyk, Sr., of Branford

John V. Olejarczyk, Sr., of Branford, died Thursday June 8, 2016 at Connecticut Hospice. He was the husband of the late Lillian Barress Olejarczyk.

John was born in Branford March 8, 1925, son of the late Stanislaw and Wladislawa Modzelewski Olejarczyk. He graduated from Branford High School as Class President in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

John was also a graduate of the University of Connecticut and received his Master's Degree from the University of Hartford. He worked for the Department of Income Maintenance for the State of Connecticut for many years, and retired as a General Assistance Policy Consultant in the late 1980's.

He was a member of the VFW Post 10186 and the American Legion Post 83 in Branford. He was also a former member of Hook and Ladder Company 1 of the Branford Fire Department. John enjoyed watching UConn basketball and was very engaged in politics.

He is survived by his sons, John V. (Janice) Olejarczyk, Jr. and Robert J. (Pamela) Olejarczyk, of Branford; his grandchildren, John V. III, Michael, Mary, and Robert Jr Olejarczyk. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lillian Makowsky Olejarczyk of Branford. He was predeceased by his brother Henry, and his sister, Jane.

His funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street Branford, Wednesday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM.
