Joseph D. "Sonny" Gambardella, 84, husband of Frances D'Errico Gambardella of Branford passed away December 5, 2016 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Father of Debra Raccio of Clinton, Glenn Gambardella of Branford and the late Joseph D. Gambardella, Jr. Grandfather of Eric and Paul (Heather) Raccio. Great grandfather of Aria and Kenley Raccio.

Son of the late Joseph and Ann Balsamo Gambardella. Brother of Dolly DelVecchio of Branford. Father-in- law of John Raccio of Branford. Joe was a 1949 graduate of Hillhouse High School and also attended Quinnipiac University. Prior to his retirement he was a Supervisor with the U S Postal Service in Milford for many years and retired at age 50 to enjoy the rest of his life, which he did.

Joseph and his wife loved to travel. Their first trip was to 9 countries in Europe and they also visited Japan, Hong Kong and Bangkok twice. They spent winters at their condo in Hallandale, Florida. Joe will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday morning at 11:00 in Our Lady of Pompeii Church.

Interment with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There will be NO CALLING HOURS. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Lung Assn., 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
