Obituary: Joseph John Meshako, 85, of Branford

Joseph John Meshako son of the late Joseph and Adeline Kozuch Meshako, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on Monday March 7, 2016. Joe was born in New Haven on November 24, 1931 and graduated in 1949 from East Haven High School.

He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy. He was an instructor and also had sea duty on board the USS Antietam.

For many years Joe was in the construction business with his cousin Christopher Reynolds, well known in Branford as R & M Construction.

A Branford resident since the 1950's, he was a member of the RTM and served on the Branford Redevelopment Agency. In his younger years, Joe was an avid skier and sailboat enthusiast.

Joe's home in Branford was his pride and joy. He designed it (as a young man in his 20's), laid every cinder block and did all the cabinets, wood paneling, etc. It was, and is, a tribute to his talent.

He married in 1956 to his now ex-wife, Catherine Sullivan (a former fashion model) and had two daughters. The eldest, Susan Meshako predeceased Joe in 2013. His younger daughter, Attorney Katherine Meshako survives him and resides in East Lyme. He is also survived by his loving companion of 32 years, Stephanie (Zvonkovic) Ammann, as well as many cousins and friends. (Some going back to the 3rd grade!)His family wishes to thank the staff of Yale New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael's Campus.

There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a remembrance gathering Saturday March 19 from 1-3 P.M. at Joe's house, 62 Short Beach Rd. Branford.
