Obituary: Josephine Stopka, 91, of Branford

Josephine Stopka, of Branford, died Sunday February 21, 2016 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the wife of the late Stanley J. Stopka.

Mrs. Stopka was born August 24, 1924 in Columbia, CT, daughter of the late Antoni and Adele Witwicki Szandurski. She had worked as a pattern draftsman at the former MIF Company in Branford, and then she was a cartography draftsman for SNET.

She was a communicant of St. Therese Church in Branford and a member of the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Branford Historical Society.

Mrs. Stopka is survived by her sons, Craig A. Stopka of Branford, Stanley J. (Dawn Jackson) Stopka, Jr. of South Dartmouth, MA, and Robert J. Stopka of Panama City Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Rachel, Natalie, Stephanie, Robyn and Brad Stopka; her great-grandchild, Zana Stopka Simmons; and her sister, Jennie Sawicki of Branford. She was predeceased by her daughter Joan Stopka.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Rosary Service Thursday morning from 9:30-9:45, with visitation from 9:45-10:30 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
