Obituary: Joyce Pounder, 94, of Branford

She enjoyed exercise, and took exceptional care of herself, and loved being with family, the ocean and working at Cox School in Guilford.

Joyce Pounder of Branford passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was 94 years old and the widow of the late Norman Pounder.

Joyce was born in Cheadle, Cheshire, England on August 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys Jones Baskerville. Joyce grew up during World War II, where as a child she was sent to Wales to live with her gran. Joyce had worked in food service at the Connecticut Hospice and comforted many patients during her time there. She had also been on staff at Cox School in Guilford and loved being with the children. Joyce enjoyed exercise and always took exceptional care of herself. She loved being by the ocean and especially loved being with her family.

Joyce is survived by by her children, Alan (Ruth) Hobson of Glossop, England, Vivien (Guy) DeMaio of Orange, Diane Casula (friend Steve Lucas) of Branford, Michelle (Michael) Manix of Stratham, NH and Stacey (Andreas) Grond of Haiku, HI; her grandchildren, Martin (Angela) Hobson, Rachel (Alastair) Goddin, Karen (Paul) Taylor, Justin Casula, Aaron DeMaio (fiance Alison Centorino), Caroline and William Manix and Elias and Athena Grond; and her great-grandchildren, George, Heather, Lucy, Ben and Amy.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Eileen Barry and Edna Weedon, and her former husband John R. Hobson.

Funeral arrangements are private at the convenience of her family.
