Obituary: Madeline T. Grant, of Branford

Madeline was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford and an active member of the Branford Women's Club.

Madeline T. Grant, of Branford, entered eternal rest December 8, 2017. She was the wife of 58 years to the late Retired Air Force Colonel Edward F. Grant. Madeline was born in Brookline, MA, May 8, 1925, daughter of the late Michael J. and Katherine O’Hare Tarpey. Madeline graduated from St. Mary High School as well as the Speech & Dramatic School in Brookline. She taught speech and dramatics in several schools in the Boston area.

She was also a nursery school teacher and playground supervisor for the Brookline Recreation Department. After moving to Branford, she worked as a teacher for the Bethesda Lutheran Nursery School in New Haven; and for 12 years, served as the secretary to the Yale Medical Librarian. Madeline was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford and an active member of the Branford Women’s Club for 25 years. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Orchard House.

Madeline is survived by two sons, Robert of Barcelona, Spain and Edward of Branford; and two daughters, Betty (Robert) Jarvis of Valdosta, GA and Susan of Miami, FL. She is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
