Obituary: Michael D. Murphy, 78, of Branford
A U.S. Marine Vietnam combat veteran, Danbury police detective, and Shotokan Karate master, he was an avid bass fisherman devoted to family.

Michael D. Murphy of Branford, October 12, 1943 to December 4, 2021, beloved husband of Charlene Malick Murphy of Branford. Father of Kelly Murphy and the late Brian Murphy. Brother of Jerome Murphy and the late Sharon Murphy. Grandfather of Jeffrey, Jason, Jessica, Alex, Krysta and Nik. He is also survived by 9 ½ great-grandchildren, 12 nieces and nephews and his Malick family, all he loved dearly.
Michael was an 8-year combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Force Recon in Vietnam. He was also a retired detective for the Danbury, CT Police Department. He was a Master Instructor in Shotokan Karate for over 40 years. He was an avid bass fisherman who competed in the National Master Bass Fishing Tournaments for 10 years. He was always a Marine, “The Real Deal.” Semper Fidelis.

Friends may call Friday from 5-7 P.M. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish in Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Memorial donations may be made to the Dan Cosgrove Animal shelter, 749 East Main St. Branford, CT 06405.
