Obituary: Mildred Rompe Smith, 85

She was, for many years, office manager with the Griswold Properties of Branford and the Indian Point Club in Stony Creek.

Mildred Rompe Smith, of Madison, passed away on May 31, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Wm Richard Smith, Sr. Mildred was born May 12, 1932, daughter of the late Wilfred C. and Mildred McGovern Rompe. She was educated at St. Louis Grammar School. St. Mary's Academy, Hillier Junior College and the Hartford School of Music.

She was a member of the Catholic Charity Leagues and the New Havener's Club. She was, for many years, office manager with the Griswold Properties of Branford and the Indian Point Club in Stony Creek. Mildred also served on the nursing staff at the Hospital of St. Raphael.

Besides her husband, Mildred is survived by her sons, Wm Richard (Stephanie) Smith, Jr. and Robert C. (Carmela) Smith; grandchildren, Ryan, Travis, Jacob and Natalie (Robert) and Heather and Colin (Richard) Smith; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Isabelle Smith; and her brother Donald Rompe. She was predeceased by her sister, Annette Kreske and Wilfred C. Rompe, Jr.

Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, Monday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
